PUBLIC COMMENTS DUE 1/8: Object to Cattle Grazing in Upper Green

Photo courtesy of US Forest Service

Oppose the plan to extend cattle grazing in the Bridger Teton National Forest. EMAIL COMMENTS TO: dbooth@fs.fed.us and objections-intermtn-regional-office@fs.fed.us prior to the close of business on January 8, 2018.

TALKING POINTS:

- I object to extend cattle grazing in a place where a national forest where wolves and grizzlies live and that native predators should be given priority.

- Further, with so many cattle on the land, native prey are driven out. This means that native carnivores invariably turn to cattle for food.

- In particular, Upper Green is a hotspot for grizzly mortality. For instance, between 2011 and 2015, seventeen grizzlies were killed in response to livestock conflicts or 81% of all livestock-related lethal conflicts in the region.

- Cattle grazing has a detrimental impact on riparian zones and native vegetation.

- As a result, I oppose extending grazing in Upper Green.

- If grazing is extended, livestock operators must agree to employ a full panoply of non-lethal methods for deterring predators including but not limited to hiring range riders, using fox lights and cleaning up carcasses. Livestock operators should also be required to learn to use and carry bear pepper spray.

    1. We should NEVER "compromise", it opening up "NEW CAN OF WORMS" we CANNOT CONTROL. and don't EVER BELIEVE cattlemen or our government will exercise ANY INTEGRITY in keeping their "phoney baloney commitment". Be Adamant....ALWAYS say NO !!!!! Cannot PROSTITUTE our public land to the cattlemen, our wolves and bear and wildlife will die, and forest and rivers will be polluted. Georgie, MS< ND.

  2. In a world where many are eating less and less beef, why would you need more land to graze for cattle. Leave nature alone!

  5. Stop taking away natural habitat for the wildlife. They live on this earth just as much as we do, and they need their space. They also have the right to live, peacefully on their own territory. Humans need to stop taking that away or there will be natural consequences. We must live in harmony with nature and wildlife. We took away enough. We need to stop.

  7. I so glad to see all these comments whom all have a deep connection to the precious life of other living creatures like our wolves and bears. I also glad to see that all who has commented understands WE are to SHARE the Earth, which was Created for wildlife and not just HUMANS only.

  8. Shoot on site Wolf Policy in 85% of the State
Poaching Grizzlies and Wolves seems to be the norm
    Large Coyote killing contest
    Ranchers running this state
    Cattle destroying our public land
Wild Horses being rounded up by helicopters by the Hundreds

All of these things are being done mainly on behalf of very wealth welfare ranchers !!!!!!

Please leave the wildlife alone, they have the right to live on this earth as we do..They deserve to live in peace..

  9. The majority of the population in this country want our apex predators left alone. They are so important to the balance of our ecosystems. Diseases that are taking over Elk and Deer populations could be eradicated if we let our real hunters take care of the problem. Instead we allow hunters and ranchers to dictate their will on the whole population of this country. Western Ranching is a 20th century issue. Talk to the Chamber of Commerce. Eco tourism is the future. Even if you only care about money, you would realize that that is where the money is. People want our Grizzlies and our wolves left alone to run free in the wild. This is supposed to be a representative democracy, not just a few special interest groups getting everything they want. Meanwhile we are destroying the Natural Balance of our environment. Get cows off of public land. Listen to the scientists when they tell you that our way of managing wildlife doesn't work. It is a proven fact. Work for all the people, not just a few.

  11. I fully opposed this ridiculous and selfish plan to allow these cattle to graze on public lands giving these selfish people a reason to want to kill wild animals the cows that they want to graze are also going to be killed by the same people this is absolutely backwards and heartless all animals deserve to live the life they were given eating a vegetarian and vegan diet is the healthiest thing for the human body for the environment and of course for the animals who value their lives as much as we do according to the World Health Organization eating meat is one of the leading causes of cancer and other diseases so let's Stand United and fight for what is right no grazing on public lands

  12. I sent an email already, I want them to STOP grazing cattle in this area and in most others in the US. They make more problems than they are worth, and they aren't worth much anymore, most of us have gone vegetarian, DON'T EAT MEAT! And the fact that they think they need to kill the local wildlife in order to play these games is hideous to me. These bears belong here, cattle don't. We aren't some third world country, back off and leave the bears to their lives and their families.

  13. I am commenting to object to extending cattle grazing in an area that contains National Forest. These lands should be giving priority to the native flora and fauna that exist in that area naturally. NOT Cattle for human consumption! Cattle grazing in our natural areas is detrimental in many ways. Cattle wreck havoc on the native flora and in the process drive out natural prey. The lack of prey forces grizzly and other apex predators to feed on cattle as their traditional food has been replaced. The Grizzly end up being killed for feeding on cattle, and yet their natural prey was driven out by the invader. Public lands are for the public -- not for personal gain by cattle ranchers. It's time to get livestock off of our nation's set aside areas. These areas are to be kept natural which includes its native flora and fauna. Keep the cattle and other livestock off our public lands.
